Perfect Fit CIO for a Global E-Commerce Fulfillment Company

Objective

A very innovative distribution company in Atlanta GA was seeking a new CIO that would match the unique environment and growth occurring in their industry.  The client had previous CIOs that did not fit for a variety of reasons but primarily they needed to find a technical leader capable of taking the organization in a new direction while not impeding the current progress being achieved by the organization.  This was the proverbial “changing the tires on the bus while it’s moving 100 MPH” scenario that is faced by many organizations today.  In addition, the new CIO needed to be experienced in mobile technology, legacy technology, be a seasoned professional with a true executive presence, and be respected by a very technical team of Vice Presidents, Directors, Manager, Engineers, and Analysts.

Process

The VP of HR was tasked by the President/CEO to find a search firm that was well networked in the CIO market, was capable of accurately vetting on a technical level, had strong business acumen,  had the ability to attract passive candidates, and could do all of this in an expeditious manner.  After asking his own network who they would recommend, Midpoint Search was the obvious choice.  The search began by engaging the team at Midpoint to tap into their vast network and to directly contact passive CIOs that were not on the market but might be interested in a new opportunity. Within a few weeks the candidate pool was narrowed down to 5 qualified CIOs.  However, the story continues….

Results

All five (5) candidates were interviewed by the executive staff and out of the five, two were selected for the final round.  While this was occurring, Midpoint continued to recruit new candidates as a contingency plan. One new candidate stood out above the rest and was immediately presented to the client CEO.  The new candidate was fast-tracked through the interview process and was added to the final round.  In the final round, the newly added CIO received unanimous approval by the executive team and the Board and was subsequently hired.
